Mandy Seligman teaches on motherhood, photography, positive psychology and finding herself in a full life

Have you ever looked under the "hood" of motherhood and wondered who am I, anymore? I haven't seen "me" in a while, though I think my soul might be buried under a pile of laundry or a science project somewhere.

Parenthood is an interesting paradox, isn't it?

It's beautiful, fulfilling, loving, stressful, exhausting, humorous, frustrating, terrifying and joyful all at the same time ... sometimes all in the same hour!

And, as busy mothers, taking care of our share (and then some), we can lose ourselves along the way.

Remember those invisible mothers from Victorian photos I shared with you two weeks ago? It's an irony both metaphorical and literal.

This week, in The Life Feast, I have an incredible special guest, one I've waited months to share with you who will be talking with us about how she found herself through photography.

Mandy Seligman is a mom of five, a homeschooler, a wife, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, and she is also she is also a developmental psychologist, an award-winning black and white photographer, and founder of the non-profit organization, SeeingHappy.org

If her name sounds familiar, it might be because she has also spent the last thirty years spreading Positive Psychology around the world with her husband, Martin Seligman (founder of Positive Psychology).

On Wednesday, October 19, in The Life Feast, Mandy will be sharing her photographic stories of a search to find herself amidst the loving chaos of a big family amidst a full life.

In this workshop, Mandy will share with us how she uses photography not only as a means to prioritize the good to create a happier life, but as a way to live a fully and creatively expressed life, even amidst the joys, stresses and demands of career and family.

Photography not only ticks all the boxes of how to put a flourishing life into practice (focus on what makes our lives happy, appreciative and meaningful), but it's also an art form made for motherhood.

Photography is a way to see and savor what we have created, and it's also a creative tool that we can use to find ourselves in our own stories.

In The Life Feast, Mandy will be sharing her stories, her creative process and her recent love affair with infrared black and white film photography. She is a passionate proponent of using positive psychology in parenting and eldercare, so she might share on those topics, as well, and she's the founder of the positive-psychology organization and photo app SeeingHappy.org (the mission of Seeing Happy is quite extraordinary. I highly recommend you check it out).

Mandy believes that slowing down, seeing and capturing beauty is a spiritual journey that enriches all of our lives - both the artist and the viewer.

I wholeheartedly agree, and Mandy and I can't wait to share our mutual love of photography and finding ourselves through creative photography on Wednesday.
